Christmas Celebration

There was a great turn out for our Christmas party when embroiderers young and not so young joined together to make Dorset button tree decorations, thanks to Helen for supplying some fantastic buttons and threads and showing us how it is done.

Not only did Aimee make her beautiful decoration with the minimum of help she also helped me with mine and won the raffle!  Well done!

Young Embroiderers

This work is due to be displayed at the Laxey Woollen Mills shortly.  The 'cloud' background was made using a peg loom and the balloons were added at the following workshop, they were made with scraps of material which were then embellished creating these wonderful colourful pieces.

September Workshop

The September workshop was led by textile artist Christine Marshall and a good start was made on making a bag from sari ribbons.  Christine was full of enthusiasm and ideas on how to create imaginative and decorative bags and brought lots of examples of her work to show the members.
Here are some examples of 'work in progress'

Guild Folios

These are just a few examples of the work that was sent to us by the Embroiderers Guild from their folio collection.  It was a great opportunity for members to closely inspect these wonderful pieces of work and the members who attended the  Saturday workshop used them as inspiration to produce their own interpretation of some of the designs.

Liverpool Outing

The members of the Liverpool Branch of the Embroiders Guild gave us a very warm welcome when eight members visited in May.  First stop was a visit to Abacan for some retail therapy of the best kind, we then visited the 'The Liverpool 08 Tapestry' which is now on display at St. George's Hall.  This was a community art project which included people of all ages and abilities and represents the people, places and passions of Liverpool.

We then attended the Liverpool Branch of the Embroiderers Guild afternoon tea party which was held at the Unitarian Church in Ullet Road, there were various competitions, stalls and a Y.E. project.  All in all we had a great day out and our thanks must go to the Liverpool Branch for their wonderful hospitality which we hope to repay one day.

Pat Barrett Workshop

What a great day we had at the April workshop with Pat Barrett, she demonstrated the darn stitch she uses to create her beautiful work and had brought with her some inspiring pieces of work, books and souvenirs from her travels for us to get inspiration from and also a wonderful stash of threads, ribbons and yarns for us to use.  This is a really simple stitch and through using varying thicknesses of threads wonderful textured pieces were produced, all very different and original.

Young Embroiderers March Meeting

This workshop was tutored by Mrs. Quayle, it involved working with shears to create a piece on which to hand stitch.  The inspiration was taken from one of her beautiful pieces she exhibited recently at the Hodgson Loom Gallery.

There wasn't sufficient time to finish stitching them during the workshop, but the 1st picture shows one that has been completed.

Kansashi Flowers

Thanks to Helen for tutoring the Kansashi flowers workshop in February.  As you can see this produced some beautiful results.

The workshop was attended by Christine Poole (EG Chairman) and her husband Dave and everyone appreciated her attending and taking time to talk to us all. This picture shows the workshop attendees and the Laxey Wheel group project which resulted from a workshop led by Sian Martin.

Christine and Dave also joined us on the Sunday afternoon at our exhibition and we felt highly honoured that she spend so much time with us.
Dave also kindly gave us some photographs that he'd taken of the exhibition (see below).
Other photos include the exhibition at the Tynwald Library location.

Peg Loom Weaving

There was an excellent turn out for our branch meeting on 31st January which was followed by a workshop on peg loom weaving by Lorraine Cleasby.  Lorraine brought along her looms, materials and lots of enthusiasm and everyone produced at least one finished piece on the day.
